As an instructional leader, I am committed to building the expertise in instructional practice in the design of equity-based instructional systems and building expertise in leaders and teachers to improve instruction. I work collaboratively with my staff to put research-based instructional best practices into action.

Our professional development (PD) is an ongoing cycle of improvement. Our focus during PD is on helping teachers through differentiated, tailored, innovative, compassionate, respected, and visionary instructional practices. What can we do together to improve our school, our classrooms, and our students learning. When it comes to individual teachers, I encouraged my instructional leadership team to ask not, "How can we stop this teacher from causing so many problems?" but rather, "What can I do to help this teacher overcome his or her difficulties?" Our focus is always on improving student learning and how we can dedicate professional development to make a difference in their learning and teaching.

The following are a list of actions we took:

  • Formative Walk-through

  • Teacher Observation

  • Lesson Plan Feedback

  • Assessment Data

  • Staff Surveys

The list is not comprehensive and we are constantly assessing our effectiveness in the support we provide teachers. We have instituted a cycle of continuous of improvement. Each tool used has specific goals and actions to obtain the most growth in instructional effectiveness. I believe that through collaboration and sharing our experiences and practices within the educational community will help our students to succeed no matter where they are educated.

Effective educators are especially important in ensuring that all students, regardless of zip-code or family circumstance, receive a high-quality education. Teachers can’t achieve classroom success alone. By working together in a strategic & targeted way, the instructional leadership team and teachers can take a significant step toward in accelerating student learning and keeping the learning needs of our children front and center.
