Let's flip Physics!! I only have 40 minute class periods and I want to do project based learning and labs/demos. If I am teaching the formula and application for Force = Mass x Acceleration and I need the students to be able to understand and calculate Force using the formula, I will have my students watch a video (TeacherTube, Khan Academy, or Youtube) on their own for homework, answer guided questions, and practice problems. The following day with in-depth prior knowledge of the material, I can focus on applying those concepts through discovery-based labs and projects. I can also provide small group or one-on-one coaching to specific students. I still review any material or questions students may have, and I am still formatively assessing their knowledge to ensure that they are meeting all levels of depth of knowledge. See the above chart for other benefits and the design process to implement in your classroom today!
