Accountability and Young Boys

Accountability is a key word in mentoring vocabulary. Teach young people to be accountable for their education, behavior, and the decisions they make. However, this is something our young people struggle with tremendously.

If you're a parents, here are a couple of tips on how you can help with this:

  1. Have your child COMPLETE their chores at home (don't come behind them and complete the chore for them.) You always pick up their clothes in the bathroom. Make them put the trash bag in the trash can after they take the trash out). This hinders them tremendously. They must learn to complete the job;

  2. Stop going to the school arguing with the teacher and principal to give him another chance when the teacher has already given them multiple opportunities to improve his grades. They'll always say "My teacher wouldn't help me. I raised my hand but she wouldn't answer. I didn't understand," or the most famous is a teary eye followed by, "She just don't like me." Parents please don't fall for these;

  3. Teach them how to be punctual and on time for everything, not just the sport or activity they love. If they can get to practice on time, they can get to class on time.
